In 2022, a new era of women’s national field hockey team began. The Czech Field Hockey Federation, launched a new programme to create the right conditions for our women to qualify for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.

We are on the right track, with our women securing second place at their home European Championships in August – as well as the participation in one of the two qualifying tournaments for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Whether that qualifying tournament is in more distant China or closer Spain, we need to prepare well. Either way, the costs will be considerable and time is running out. We would hate to put a halt to this impressive journey, just as we would hate to limit other activities of the Czech Field Hockey Federation. Do you want to live our Olympic dream with us? If we can reach the 500,000 CZK milestone together, it will be a wonderful achievement. This would allow us to further improve our preparation before the qualification.

Captain Kateřina Laciná reflects on the European silver: „The final was our goal from the beginning, but the road to it was challenging. We met tough opponents in the tournament, but in the key matches we were able to win with the help of amazing fans,“ she adds: „Olympic qualification is a real challenge. I don’t want to say a dream come true, because I would consider it to be a dream come true to participate in the Olympics itself. But in any case, I believe it is achievable. We will meet strong teams, but we ourselves have also moved forward. We will go to the tournament with respect, but also with a healthy self-confidence.“

Participation in the tournament itself and the necessary prior preparations entail great costs.“The sporting success of the girls has surpassed all expectations. Combined with the more likely Chinese destination of the final tournament, we are simply faced with the necessity of raising additional financial resources,“ states the current president of the federation, Gino Schilders.“We do not want to cut the resources allocated primarily to the development of young talents, and we also understand the tight situation within the state budget. At the same time, we don’t want to just sit and give up on the huge sporting challenge the girls have fought for.“
